Adult Riding Course

Friday 27th – Monday 30th August

Friday 3rd – Monday 6th September

A 4 day course to help adults become more involved and confident with horses, to include riding, handling and general care.

FRIDAY OPEN SHOWS

The Friday show days are open to all our customers and run from 10am to 4pm. The Open Shows are a chance for our riders to come and experience what happens on a competition day albeit without leaving the yard. The day starts with cleaning your horse and tack ready for competition and this is then followed by the competition classes. The three classes are a test of your show preparation "how well you have cleaned you horse and tack" and then your riding. This is takes place in the familiar environment of Darkes Farm.

12pm Best Turned out show class
To be judged on a small individual display and appearance of horse and rider. Can be led

2pm Showjumping
People to jump 1 round of jumps at the height they choose, quickest clear round wins. Can be led.

3pm Games
A selection of different games for all abilities. May get messy. Can be led

This is for all abilities to have lots of fun and to encourage nervous, young or riders that don’t own their own horses to friendly competition.
Rosettes to 6th place in all classes.

Summer Open day 27th June 2010

The Open Day was a great success with many of our customers getting involved in the displays on the day. We had lesson demonstrations, riding displays, horse and hound jumping and some bare-back jumping too.

Winter Dressage Sunday 13th December 2009

After the washout in November the Winter Dressage finally took place on sunday 13th December and like the year before it was a chilly day. However the competitors were undeterred by the cold conditions and you all put in some very impressive performances! Special mention should go to the competitors in Class 2, the judges were very impressed by the riders and were sorry that more rosettes could not be awarded. Many of the riders had competed in the 2008 Lead Rein Class and the improvement in 12months was exceptional!

End of Summer Show Sunday 4th October 2009

Once again the weather was kind to us and a busy day of activities ensued. With mini show jumping in the indoor arena, maxi show jumping in the outdoor paddock, best turned out in lond field and the Le Trek in the new mini x-country paddock.

All the judges were very impressed by the standard of the riders and effort displayed so all the competitors can be proud of their performances on the day. Many riders experienced something new, not just the Le trek obstacles but also riding out in the paddocks.

Summer Holiday Fun Days 2009

Thank you to everyone who came along and took part in one of the summer Fun Days. The staff here at Drakes Farm really enjoyed organising them so we hope the competitors did too.

Well done to everyone who took part and had a go at something different!

 

Christmas Jumping & Games 28th December 2008
On a chilly day our first annual Christmas show and games competition saw a good turnout with riders competing at all levels. A number of riders had their 1st go at jumping and some quick rounds were jumped in the early classes. The later classes of 2ft and 2ft6 were competed over a challenging course arranged by Kate to test the competitiors. The day ended with some games including the musical Stalls and Ride & Run which saw a number of people showing the sort of speed that would have won medals in Beijing I'm sure!

 

Christmas Fancy Dress 20th December 2008
Both the under 9's and over 9's Fancy dress classes were closely contested with alot of thought and creativity going into the Horse & Rider dress combinations. Mr M was the judge on the day and certainly had a hard time selecting a winner. On the day £35 was raised in aid of the Ferne Animal Trust.

 

Dressage 30th November 2008

On a very chilly day a superb turnout of riders and horses took part in our Dressage event at Drakes Farm. Congratulations to everyone who took part on Sunday, all the hard work in the lessons paid off and some great performances were given to impress the judges! A big thank you to everyone who helped on the day.

Drakes Farm Show 28th September 2008
After the early morning fog had cleared and the horses and riders could see what they had to do the fun started. By the end of the event the sun was out and so were the smiles and judging by the feedback I think the day was a success.
